Congratulations
Dear Participants,
An anniversary is always something very special as it provides us with the opportunity to pause and look back, but it is also an occasion to celebrate. And – with this year's motto being "Time to celebrate" – this is exactly what we did.
We can celebrate a new participation record: 35.140 athletes from 90 nations! This is not something to be taken for granted. Many thanks for making this possible by your participation. Since its beginning, the Austrian Women's Run® has been growing - from 440 pioneers in 1988 to more than 35,000 today. This number of participants means a lot more than "just" a new record. Over the past 30 years, hundreds of thousands of women and girls have discovered their passion for running.
A passion which, spanning generations, has been passed on. When grandmothers, mothers, daughters and granddaughters participate together in the Austrian Women's Run and share this special experience with each other, it demonstrates that we have achieved a lot together, and that makes me immensely happy!
Many people ask me time and again what my personal, most beautiful moment is at the Austrian Women's Run®. It is that moment when I try to survey the field of runners at the start on the Prater Hauptallee, looking over a sea of participants and not even being able to see where the starting blocks end. This is an indescribable feeling, one that moves me deeply every year.
Ilse Dippmann
OrganizerI am very thankful to be able to experience and feel this. The Austrian Women's Run® is a special, emotional occasion for unbelievably many women. Many messages, emails, phone calls (…) reach me from participants who either want to share their experiences with me, or simply say thank you. I would like to return this gratitude to all the 355,000 participants of the past 30 years. Only you, the so many wonderful women and girls, have made the Austrian Women's Run® that what it is today. Many thanks!
When I look at the countless photos of radiant, strong, self-confident, cheerful girls and women of all ages, and look at their athletic level of performance (…),I know that a wonderful future lies ahead of us – and I’m looking forward to it!
Once again I would like to invite you to join me in reviewing the anniversary and the highlights of the 30th Austrian Women's Run® – texts, photos and videos. Perhaps, like my team and I, you also feel that certain moments cause goosebumps each and every time we remember them. I hope that you too can incorporate the positive general mood and energy of the Austrian Women's Run® in your daily lives and training.
I would be very happy to be able to greet you at the 31st Austrian Women's Run® on Sunday, 27 May 2018 (planned date).
Warmest regards,
Ilse Dippmann
Athletes Race Progress
The internationally and nationally star-studded elite–field ensured a highly exciting race, which included the winners of the last 12 years, in celebration of this year’s anniversary.
The reigning European half marathon champion and last year’s winner Sara Moreira from Portugal wins the 5k elite competition in 15:35,4 min and could also improve her running time from the previous year (15:37,1 min).
The Dutsch medium and long-range runner Susan Krumins followed and placed 2nd with a running time 15:40,1 min. Krumins, who was the second best European and placed 8th with a time of 15:00,00min at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, competed in the Austrian Women’s Run for the first time. Pauline Naragoi Esikon (KEN) who ran for the Austrian-Kenyan running project run2gether, finished the 5K race in 15:53,2 minutes and came in 3rd.
Fastest Austrian Jennifer Wenth
Jennifer Wenth, the Olympian finalist and among top 5 European runners over 5.000m in 2015, was not able to carry through with her regular training plan, due to various injuries. The Austrian Women’s Run helped to determine her status, with a running time of 16:51,4 minutes over 5K she placed 9th in the strongly represented elite-field.

JUBILEE time to celebrate!
Our 30th anniversary was about a lot more than just celebrating turning 30! Together with the participants and the Women’s run community, we celebrated that which we have in common, our passion for running. Our ardent heart and the flames of passion symbolise the spark of enthusiasm which, since 1988, has sprung over to so many thousands of women and girls. Optical highlights were set, both on the Women’s Run shirt and the anniversary tattoo as well as on many further occasions during the event weekend.
With the T-Shirt-Parade – the presentation of Women’s Run shirts from the past 30 years – we were able to take stock of the enormous development of the Austrian Women's Run®. More than 100 women’s run trainers, who athletically prepared runners and Nordic walkers throughout Austria for this annual highlight, also contributed to this development. During the awards ceremony, those trainers who have already been active for the Austrian Women's Run® for longer than 10 years were especially thanked for their services.
The visit of women’s run pioneer Kathrine Switzer (US) made us particularly happy; to celebrate this anniversary, she ran with the symbolic starting number 35,000.
THANKS We say THANK YOU!
THANKS to our participants & the Women’s Run community – which has grown enormously – for being there, for the shared joy, the shared passion for running, and for being faithful over the past 30 years. It is good to have such wonderful women and children (as participants), and many men (as supporters) at our side in the Women’s Run community.
THANKS to our sponsors & partners from business, media and politics for their great support, long-standing co-operation and passing on the Women’s Run idea. It is only together with them that the realisation of such a running event of these dimensions and emotions becomes possible.
THANKS to all the helpers who, every year, work with so much enthusiasm, dedication and passion, both in the organising and the implementation. Many of them have been with us from the very beginning in 1988, and we want to thank them in particular.
THANKS to the numerous district chairpersons who took over part of the costs for the 35,000 roses.
THANKS to the many enthusiastic teachers who ensure, year for year, that the Austrian Women's Run® remains a fixed point in the school year’s sport’s calendar, and pass on their enthusiasm for running to thousands of girls.
We look forward to seeing you at the 31st Austrian Women's Run® on 27 May 2018 (scheduled date)!
